🍸Verde Ca' Ruptae - Verdicchio 2014 DOC🍸

🍇Production area: Three vineyards selected in the Verdicchio Classico production zone, the areas of San Martino (Serra de’ Conti), San Lorenzo (Montecarotto) and Piagge (Castelplanio). 🍇Grapes: 100% Verdicchio.
🍇Winemaking: Hand-picking, in two vineyard passes, for careful selection of quality grapes.
The clusters are de-stemmed, then the juice is cryomacerated on the skins, the free-run must is separated out and gravity settled, then undergoes a temperature-controlled fermentation with cultured native yeasts. It matures 4 months sur lie in steel, with regular bâttonage, then the wine bottle-ages in temperature-controlled storage.
🍇Testing notes: A lively, sparkling straw-yellow colour, flecked with green and gold.
A compelling aromatic amalgam of stone-fruit, wild herbs, yeastiness, pungent blackberry and acacia blossoms, with light hints of broom. It is impressive for its length and intensity.
Lean and dry, yet rounded and smooth, still delicate, with good support from the alcohol. Its crisp acidity and fresh fruit, complemented by the wine’s ageing on the lees, contribute substantially to the balance as well as to its significant body and weight.
🍇Pairing: This Verdicchio will partner beautifully with a wide range of fine dishes, from rich shellfish appetizers, in particular raw, to seafood-dressed pastas. Its emphatic alcohol makes it a fine partner to Italian-style mixed fried seafood, as well as baked fish preparations, in particular with full-flavoured grilled seafood. Although “betrothed to the sea,” it breaks its vows deliciously with poultry and rabbit.
