Recent comments suggested that the Pichon Comtesse 82 may be over its peak. I was interested to see if that really was the case. This wine didn't need any decanting, it jumped right out of the gates. The nose has blackberries, cassis, black currant, pencil shavings, tobacco and some beautiful earthy notes. It is full bodied with great concentration and the tannins are fully integrated! This is such an elegant wine, that has still a perfect balance between acidity and fruit. It is fully matured for sure and definitely at its plateau. I'm not so sure if it's already on the downhill as it's still so bloody damn delicious!
