This is the 3rd time I'm having the Haut Brion 2004.
A couple of years after it was released, I opened the first bottle. It was totally closed and stubbornly backward. I was surprised how bad it was.
A few years after that I tried another bottle to get the same result.
Now at almost 13 years of age, I gave it another shot, hoping to get a better experience.
I decanted it for 3 hours and the wine started opening up.
The nose offered some blackberries, raspberries, oak and notes of espresso.
It is medium bodied, tannins present but not overpowering. There's a nice velvet texture to the wine. It's nice to see how the wine evolved over the past years. This is not a blockbuster but still a very good Haut Brion.
