Had an amazing day at Cannon Day last week, teaching all the people at @uofguelph about the cool work we do with Wild Ontario and the amazing birds (like Chinook!) I have the pleasure of working with :) All the birds we work with are non-releasable due to some sort of negative human interaction they had while living in the wild, but now act as educational ambassadors for their species!

Last week #uofg students were lucky enough to meet some of the crew of @wild_ontario in Branion Plaza! Wild Ontario is a group that cares for #raptors that cannot be released into the wild, and then those birds act as ambassadors for education and outreach. Pictured are Kevin and Chinook the #peregrinefalcon!

#tongetuesday , and what a magnificent tonge!!! Giraffes have a prehensile tongue approximately 17-20 in long. The tongue is colored bluish-black to protect it from sunburn. Not only do giraffes uses it to grasp things but they also use it for personal grooming, such as picking its nose and cleaning its ears. #tonge #giraffetonge #animalsofinstagram #enrichment #animalenrichment #wildlife #animal #animals #animalhusbandry #wildlifeeducation #wildlifephotography #education #conservation #ranch #safari #malibuwines #malibuwinesafari #malibuhike #malibu

Office manager Virgil was showing off for his favorite human. He’s such a handsome boy, and he knows it! Our location is one of the most northern spots to find these birds, which can be found along the southern east coast and Gulf states, and through most of Central and South America! #blackvulture #vulture #wildliferehab #wildliferescue #wildlifeeducation

How awesome is this, Little Aussie Encounters has a new Little Aussie Hero joining our family.
To celebrate our awesome opportunity to be on the road with the Deadly60 Live downunder Queensland tour, we've named our new Keelback Snake "Steve". He may not be deadly to us but to the introduced Cane Toad we think he would make the Deadly60 list.

ohmoretvWould you dare live in a house with spiders, scorpions and snakes crawling around?
For Sean Roach, this is his everyday life! Being a Wild Life Educator and animal ethusiast, Sean sees the wonder of nature
expressed in all the amazing animals in the world. To him, animals are his super heroes.

He draws inspiration from them for many of his artistic creations. Colors, patterns and textures of animals excites his imagination to create his kaleidoscopic canvases. The sounds, and rhythm from animals became his inspiration to compose music on 22 different instruments.
What fascinates Sean the most is the natural movement of animals. So much so he walks on stilts to emulate an kangaroo and handglides like a sugarglider would jumping of a tree.

From creepy to cute, each one of his beloved animals motivate him to explore the natural world and his own being.

Native Wildlife as pets? What's your thoughts?
In Australia people keep horses for a multitude of reasons, one of them being pets. As a result of that - people learn about them and understand them which continues on to people fighting to protect them.
A clear example of this is seen in the snowy mountains in NSW where wild horses known as brumbies, were about to be culled in order to manage the population and as a means of protecting the environment and the wildlife. A huge public outcry has now prevented that movement from going a head and the wild horses - an invasive feral species, remain.
Because people keep horses as pets, they care about them and I would go as far as saying they love them. As I've already mentioned - this has resulted in a feral species remaining in the wild!
Where do you draw the line between pet and pest. Few people seem to be able to do recognise the two.
If we could keep native mammals like quolls, possums, gliders and wallabies as pets, do you think people would have the same response if they found out that we are losing Australian native wildlife to introduced animals like cats, dogs, pigs, horses and foxes? Leave a comment below and let me know what you think!

Coming at you today with the awww factor. Here's a sunda colugo or flying lemur, found in SE Asia (Galeopterus variegatus). Fact, they neither fly nor are they a lemur. However, these cuties can climb from tree to tree and glide up to 100m. Their large eyes are adapted to see in the dark due to their nocturnal behaviour. #sundacolugo #animalfacts #wildlifeeducation
