@jesterkingbrewery has continued to impress me with their spontaneously fermented beers. When they added a unique combination of blueberry and dragonfruit, I knew it had to be exceptional. Let's see how they did. I acquired this beer from the brewery.
Name: SPON Blueberry & Pitaya
Brewery: Jester King Brewery, Austin, Texas
Style: American Wild Ale
Poured gently at 44°F from a 375ml bottle (bottled 02Feb17) into a tulip. Consumed on 10Aug17.
TASTE: A blend of intense sour green apple and bold blueberry commence the symphony of flavors. Mild dragonfruit, hay, and balsamic vinaigrette bring a barnyard funk and an additional fruitiness and tartness. Mild waves of oak, earthy yeast, and tobacco with a subtle wheat maltiness expand the complexity as the hay funk is strengthened and the dragonfruit fruitiness is slightly bolstered. Concludes with a touch of salty minerals and lemon zest while the earthy yeast grows subtly stronger.
NOTE: This was much better from the bottle than from on cask. The tartness, blueberry, and funk was much more pronounced. The supporting dragonfruit provided a smooth, creamy fruitiness that mixed well with the other aspects. I never thought that these two fruit would make a great pair.
