⚠️⚠️⚠️Kennel cough is in this area! ⚠️⚠️⚠️ #Kent #Medway #Rainham #Wigmore #Parkwood
I've now had several happy panters confirmed with kennel cough and the local vets have said it's going around this area, particularly #rainham, #parkwood and #Wigmore.
So please be careful and look out for your dog being unwell, a hacking cough, sneezing and reverse sneezing. Although kennel cough can sound terrible, most of the time it is not a serious condition, and most dogs will recover without treatment. However, the hacking cough can develop into a serious chest infection, especially in dogs under two years old and elderly dogs.
There are three forms of vaccine for kennel cough: one that is injected, one that is delivered as a nasal mist, and one that can be given by mouth. Although these vaccines may help, they do not guarantee protection against kennel cough because it can be caused by so many different kinds of bacteria and viruses. Also, it is important to remember that neither form of the kennel cough vaccination will treat active infections.
As the bacteria is airborne, any dogs with confirmed kennel cough must stay off walks and at home for a quarantine period to avoid passing the virus to any other dogs.
If you are unsure or think your dog is unwell then seek veterinary advice.
