This is essentially my love letter to Mindy Kaling... and it's a long one... so get ready... I have always idolized Mindy Kaling. I have always felt connected to her relatable personality and as a young writer and actress, Ive been awestruck by her boundless talent.
My mum gave me Mindy's book years ago (always listen to your mother, kids), but as I entered university I put a hold on reading for pleasure. With third year of Uni at an end (and after watching The Office for like the billionth time) I decided it was time to give it a read and I basically read the whole thing in one sitting. I have never been so moved and inspired! I mean, I knew I loved her but I never knew how much she struggled to get where she is and damn does it feel good knowing how hard she worked to accomplish everything she has done. ---I wish I could say this photo was taken by a friend or handsome stranger who just happened to be strolling by my bed and thought I looked adorably bookish, but in reality I was reading when I thought "hey, I bet this looks super aesthetically pleasing" and immediately requested my mother take this photo (who in fact is also a huge role model to me, just in a different motherly-figure kind of way [go figure]) (I hate that I just said figure twice).---
Mindy is so unapologetically herself. Both her writing and acting are unique, risqué, quirky, witty, refreshing, riveting, fun (I'm sure there are like a billion other positive adjectives I could use to describe this powerhouse of a woman, but I don't want to over do it TOO much) and above all else- inspiring.
I laughed, I cried, I felt a little better about myself as an artist. I drew inspiration to go out and make my dreams come true. I know it's a rocky path and I have no idea where it will lead to, but this book gave me the confidence to give it my all. Thank you, Mindy 💞
