“My Why” part 2! And all because I said that I follow my dreams and make every day count.... But words are cheap and in the world of fake news, synthetic products & manufactured dreams I vow to always be true to myself, and to you. We’ve all said “life’s too short” but how many of us truly act as though that is the case? How many #dreams have you “put aside” to let day-to-day life take over?
My childhood dream was to learn to fly and become a #pilot. It was my career choice at school, I studied the right subjects and I applied to the RAF for a flying scholarship. But sadly, the competition was tough, I didn’t get a place & my dream looked like a failed take-off before it began. -
Following on from the loss of my father, I threw caution to the wind, re-mortgaged my tiny house and learnt to fly. I still remember now the first day I actually flew solo which was one of my best days ever! -
After getting my PPL, the learning didn’t stop there; learning to fly different types of aircraft such a tail-wheel, vintage, pitched/fixed props and achieving ratings of night & instrument flying, it’s fair to say that I was addicted 😊. -
Always wanting to explore the “flight envelope”, my biggest buzz was learning aerobatics with a retired fighter pilot and getting my AOPA aerobatics qualification (the 8th woman at the time to get this). From then on, I spent my free time upside down, 5,000ft over the #wiltshire countryside!! -
Flying gave me #freedom, it made me realise that achieving your dreams IS possible. It opened doors, opportunities and possibilities. The seemingly impossible, became the possible from the aerodynamics of flight through to the “fancy popping over to the Channel Islands for lunch?” with friends.
So why is this part of “My Why”? Well as time passed, financial commitments took over and after a few years of having a ball, my pockets were empty. Working for someone else capped my earning ability and so deciding to become an #entrepreneur opens doors to endless opportunities and potential. My flying is on hold as I invest in my businesses & it’s only a matter of time before I’m airborne again😊. -
