Whiskey of the Week! Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond!
This week we take a look at a classic. Rittenhouse is extremely versatile, working in any cocktail that calls for a rye, as well as standing up on its own when poured neat.
Out of the glass, the rye is present, but not overwhelming. It is joined by a hit of pepper, and then some surprising canned fruits, as well as oak, old book and a little bit of caramel and a very faint floral note. The rye dominates the first sip, coming off very hot and peppery with cinnamon and oak. The second sip welcomes back the fruit from the nose, and moves on with a light corn syrup and caramel. The finish isn't overly complex, wrapping up with rye, oak, caramel, and the addition of malted barley. Overall this deserves a spot on anyone's shelf, especially if you enjoy a great Manhattan. Thanks @heavenhilldistillery for the pour!
