#wherewestand me n my love- feeling on top of the world #mydubailife #lastingimpressions

i've had my mind on womxn, the womb, sisterhood, and matriarchy lately. i've also had my mind on trauma, fragility, and the lingering chains of colonization-- particularly the ways in which these things flow through our veins, at times dormant and at times rearing its ugly head. i've been thinking on the cancellation that takes place between the first thought and the second. the ways in which trauma and fragility and colonization has eaten its way through womxn, the womb, sisterhood, and matriarchal practices. .
.
.
thinking on these things and their relation to my life has resulted in a profound and embodied sadness. but thinking on these things have also strengthened my resolve and intentions to end the patterning here. i have no intention to unmother, no intention to not support my sisterhood, no intention to silence and pain my womb and womxn identity-- though i have managed to commit all of these things plenty of times thus far. to negate the pattern is to fix the self. to fix the self is to proper know and love one's self. and in doing this, we can know and love our others and our community. .
.
.
this is the kapwa way. thank you @gunitacollective, @astageofourown, and #kitakits for the ways in which you've helped nurtured me within this journey. may we continue to expand. .

Repost from @toni.moves :
I’m looking forward to co-facilitating this workshop with @guro_alvin_catacutan . Experiencing the movement connections between Philippine dance and its martial art continue to increase my range in movement and strategy, creativity, and appreciation for dance and martial arts as healing and meditative. Please bring a pair of kali or Sakuting sticks if you have. We will provide a few extra pairs of both. All experiences are welcomed. Be prepared to learn an introduction to kali, movement similarities with the sayaw/dance Sakuting, both practices' crossover histories, and to experience this through kali drum rhythms. Space is limited so register soon by emailing astageofourown@gmail.com.
.
Here’s a clip of last week’s training and exploring crossovers.

Workshop Location Highlight : Boogiezone Utopia "At Boogiezone Utopia, we encourage everyone to imagine what their ideal personal Utopian state of creative existence would be, and allow each to explore it further by not only providing the space, but the tools and the environment to help make dreams happen. Many dancers and artists have the vision to be exceptional, however, they do not have the resources to nurture it.

Boogiezone Utopia – Laboratory for the Creative Arts is a creative artists’ dream and a hungry students’ paradise. A social hotspot, where one can engage on a multitude of levels; fine tune their skills, gain inspiration, brainstorm ideas, and share their love and passion for all things creative. This takes place all within the confines of a building whose interior design and space will promote the same sort of energy it houses.”

CYPHERS & CEREMONIES: A Heightened Embodiment
Saturday 03/09/2019
Boogiezone Utopia
12:30-2:30PM

Facilitator: Noelle Marie Falcis Math (@gunitacollective)

A cypher, despite all popular depictions, is, and always has been, rooted in the ceremonial. Taking the shape of the circle, the cypher offers co-creation through reciprocity, and the diversity of artists feeding off of one another's energy to further explore, expand, and create. As ceremony, the cypher has commonly been used to celebrate, to mourn, to learn, to defend, to challenge, and to empower-- all sacred rites that rely on collective voluntary exchange. Through popular depiction, the importance of the cypher has become hazy; the intentions behind the exchanges muddied.
This workshop will explore a heightened sense of cypher and ceremony to create an elevated approach of mindful and intentional practice when giving and receiving within community.
We will start with critical dialogue to create a foundational base of understanding, then move into embodied exercises, and then the cypher/ceremony- a culmination of movement, instrumentation, and sound that invites all forms of artistry in for participation and exchange.

✴❇✴ workshop venue highlight : "At Pamana Kali, we practice a martial art that is as beautiful as it is lethal. It is fluid, elegant, strong as steel, and supple as silk. Our Kali and Silat lives in the present, woven with an ancient thread that connects us to our ancestors. We welcome all who would appreciate the customs and culture of the Philippines. Join our Kapwa (Community). Diversity, Honesty, and Respect makes us strong." Pamana Kali

Saturday 02/09/2019

3:30PM-6PM

Facilitators: Amelia Butler and Toni Pasion (@toni.moves)

PUNA translates to "water spring" in Māori and Hawaiian languages. This workshop evokes divine feminine allyship through creative processes informed by our shared qualities as Ocean people, lessons from our traditional stories, and our dance forms. Participants will be guided through multi-sensorial approaches using movement and the voice to activate our conscious relationship with the Earth and one another. Amelia Butler of Ngā Ānahera Māori and Toni Pasion of Manariwa Dance guide us through their processes from Māori and Pilipinx perspectives, and invite us to come together to honor creation as sacred regeneration, and celebrate the expansiveness of our relational cultures through dance and song.

FANHASSO - Matao New Performance

Saturday 01/12/19

12:30-3:30PM

Facilitator: Dåkot-ta Alcantara-Camacho (@infinitedakota)

MATAO is an emergent identity/method for indigenizing creativity and creatively indigenizing one's self.  MATAO represents the forgotten/remembered name of ancestors and their ways of thinking/being. In many indigenous languages, the names we have been given reflect our humanity and our human values of compassion, respect, and love for life itself.
In this workshop, MATAO (Chamorro) movement, song, language, ritual practices and the journey to recover/restore/restory  them serve as a vessel for participants to relate to their lands, ancestors, and language.
MATAO draws from the wisdom of the Diaspora experience to craft a unique process of contemporary indigenous creativity that serves our collective Spiritual Sovereignty.
