So vegan October is almost half way there and I’m finding it quite an interesting experience
I don’t desperately crave any of the forbidden foods when I’m eating in a structured way. Having gorged on flesh and dairy my entire life that’s come as a hell of a shock. I thought meat fish and dairy were built into my being. That being said, it does feel like I’ve eliminated something from my diet that is occasionally missed, so I’m afraid I’ll be going back once the month is over, although maybe not as much as before! #flexitarian 😂
Where I do struggle is when I’m not structuring my meals, especially the long work days. Snacking is a bad habit of mine, to the point I didn’t realise I was doing it as much as I was. I’ve found myself nibbling a scrap of cheese or cured meat or duck breast trim soooo many times! Annoying but I guess old habits really do die hard, especially for a chef who’s tasting constantly. But it’s about the good intentions right??? Anyway, lunch today was smokey maple flavoured tempeh (apparently a bacon substitute: not even close but tasty nonetheless) ‘blue cheese’, charred broccoli and mushroom salad! And it was bloody epic. Who knew vegan could be so tasty that I wouldn’t feel deprived and wanna stick a chunk of meat on top of it?!?!
It’s amazing how much the last 6 months have made me realise I know a lot less than I thought I did! it’s liberating! And humbling! And feels great! 😊👨🏻🎓🤔 #vegan #healthyeating #plantbased #stoptober #trynewthings #tempeh #veganfood #fakecheese #animalovers #wheresmysteak #meatfree #learning
