It’s Fire Prevention Week! We, at Liberty, are taking steps to make sure our emergency evacuation procedures are on point. Some of our brace and fearless staff members have volunteered to be Safety Captains. Besides getting to wear those stylishly slimming neon vests, Safety Captains help usher people to the appropriate fire exit, sweep the office to make sure no one has been left behind, and lead their co-workers to safety. Able-bodied folks gather a block away from our office, both for their own safety and also so fire engines can have easy access to the building. Those who use mobility aids or otherwise cannot descend the stairs will gather in an Area of Refuge, state-of-the-art fire towers that are designed to safely withstand at least two hours of fire. Safety Captains stay with those gathered in the fire towers to wait for First Responders who will carry folks down to the street level. We do this because we believe it’s paramount to keep an individual with their mobility device. This way we can ensure everyone’s safety as well as their mobility and independence. What are YOU doing for Fire Prevention Week?
