Pierre Ferrand are known to us here at Glassmates as the guys ultimately behind Plantation Rum. Considering how much a fan we are of the rums, it was something of a no brainer we’d be fans of the Cognac too.
Always bringing something new to the table, the Renegade Barrel seeks to challenge the preconceptions of what Cognac should taste like. Legally it cant be called Cognac as the guidelines are very strict but this Eau de Vie is finished in Chestnut Wood barrels to provide a mellow and unique taste not common to the spirit.
A very solid range with something to suit all palates I fell in love with the 10 Generations bottling that is just about to hit the market.
A tribute to the 10 generations of the Ferrand family who have built up the legacy of this Cognac house since the 1600’s. The intricate artwork on the bottle also reflects the roots of this house and how deep they run.
Using Premier Cru grapes to produce this wonderfully balanced Cognac shows the pedigree of the house and it’s blenders. Finished for the last 6+ months in Sauternes (dessert wine) casks, this is wonderfully delicate and opulent.
A very close runner- up on the day. -Nigel
