No running today. Rest day ahead of the Half on this coming Sunday. As in all good programs, a rest day is a critical part of training, to allow your body to recover and come back stronger the next day, and the next... So today was a mixture of clients, run squad🏃🏽♀️🏃🏽, admin work 🖌, client calls☎️, pick ups & drop offs 🚗, family stuff, and my second time at book club tonight 📚(with beautiful Choc torte 🍰and 🍾 , tho not for me so close to 'race day'). But also a chance to contemplate how I started this Marathon journey, in Paris in 2005 with my good friend Sally, who threw down the gauntlet of meeting in Paris for this Big Hairy Audacious Challenge - while I was still running only 5km!
But I said YES ("oui"), "Why not?!", and believed I could do it...and built that belief as I took on 10km, then 15km and then my first 21.1km Half Marathon....calling Sally (in England) from the finish line of the Tasmania Marathon at the Cadbury chocolate factory in Hobart to say, "book those plane tickets!!!" From there, I had my huge adventure in Paris, and ran my first and PB time (4hrs 14mins) which stood for almost 12 years, til I ran Berlin last year (4:05). Getting faster and running stronger 12 years older!
And now, looking forward to my best yet, for the so-far elusive <4hours in Melbourne...in just 80 days time!
But it was the BELIEF that got me started - and the crazy belief and support of Sally and Brian - that got me to the start line in Paris in the first place. And after the first one was done, the sense that "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, YOU'VE JUST GOT TO BELIEVE IT!" So my challenge to you, what do YOU need to REALLY BELIEVE IN to make it happen? What's YOUR Big Hairy Audacious Goal?! XOXO ❤️⭐️🥇🇫🇷
