The American Gov forced this Chief to sign away 1/4 of the tribe's Reserve Land for a Hydro project. They told him they were gunna flood it anyway even if he didnt agree. It was common to flood Indigenous villages who didnt sign onto hydo development. This shit drives me crazy. #WhatsChanged?? History:
Picture: "George Gillette, chairman of the Fort Berthold Indian Tribal Council, weeps as he watches Secretary of the Interior A.J. King sign the Pick Sloan Flood Control Act. May 20, 1948. "
Summary: the Flood Control Act did successfully control flooding of the Missouri River, but at the cost of flooding lands which had previously belonged to Native Americans. They lost 202,000 acres and were forced to relocate.
