Happy Monday!! Splurged on some Ora King salmon from @flyingfishpdx so I could make this salmon poke bowl 🍣 I’ve been craving raw salmon lately (raw everything in this heat!!) so decided to try something new instead of feeding my sushi addiction!
👉coconut ginger brown rice (recipe on my blog) salmon poke (recipe below), quick pickled cukes🥒, purple cabbage and avo 🥑 Also ended up adding pickled red onions because 🤷‍♀️why not??
👉RECIPE: Salmon Poke
1 lb sushi grade salmon
2 tbsp low sodium tamari
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1/2 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp grayed ginger
Black sesame seeds
Chopped scallion
👉cut salmon into bite sized cubes and add to a bowl. Add remaining ingredients and top with black sesame and scallions.

Grapefruit and avocado combine to create a taste that is heavenly. I’ve got my first marathon of the year on Sunday, so I’m being a good girl and cutting my fat intake down for the next few days.
I’m starting the week off with a high protein pie. made with a lean wholewheat pastry, courgettes, tomatoes, & chickpeas. The crushed steamed potatoes were mashed with oat milk and parsley, and the salad is already saintly 😇

Sometimes we overeat on regular days. Or at regular meals. Or All. The. Time. Especially as athletes, we seem to think we can eat whatever we want, when we want because we burn it off. But that’s not true.
Here are three tips to avoid overeating at meals. (Psst, turn these into habits and ditch the willpower!)
1. Some studies have shown that drinking a glass or two of water before a meal can help reduce the amount of food eaten. And this super-simple tip may even help with your athletic performance, since water plays an integral part in the optimal functioning of your body during training and during rest and recovery. Not only will the water start to fill up your stomach before you get to the buffet, leaving less room for the feast but drinking enough water has been shown to slightly increase your metabolism.
2. Just as being mindful when you meditate helps to focus your attention on your breathing and the present moment, being mindful when you eat helps to focus your attention on your meal. Do this by taking smaller bites, eating more slowly, chewing more thoroughly, and savouring every mouthful. Notice and appreciate the smell, taste and texture. Breathe. This can help prevent overeating because eating slower often means eating less. When you eat quickly you can easily overeat because it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to know that your stomach is full.
3. Veggies are a great way to start any meal because they’re full of not only vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and health-promoting phytochemicals but they also have some secret satiety weapons: fiber and water.

It’s called unconditional permission and once you give it to yourself and learn to navigate food from a place of grace, then your body will regulate itself. When you honor your body it serves you well, like giving you the ability to run up and down crazy tall mountains with friends.

Everyday, #intuitiveeating gets a little easier. I’ve learned to stop ignoring what my body is asking for. I’ve learned to no longer feel ashamed of hunger. I’ve learned it’s ok to not finish a meal, and it is equally ok to ask for another helping.

I still sometimes struggle with numbers. I try to avoid reading labels or focus on how many calories may or may not be in something. There will be times #foodfreedom comes naturally, and other days I feel like an insecure mess. I embrace any weight gain (or loss). I’m more at peace with my body.

Most importantly, I’ve removed my diet mentality and stigma. I’ve stopped micro-managing my meals. Not everyday is easy, nor do I know what I want to eat everyday...But it’s getting easier.

Intuitive eating is helping me become a better eater and person. If you’re in the middle of this journey, hang in there. It will get easier. You can do this.

Day 103 - 16.7.18 🥚🥓🥑🍞. After an early start to the day and a trip to the hospital, my daughter and I went out and had a well deserved breakfast at Cafe Diversity. We didn’t feel like anything too lavish so poached eggs, bacon, halloumi and avo on sour dough toast went down like a treat. Took a little stroll along the beachfront at Redcliffe before taking the little 🐶🐶🐶our for a big walk. It will have to be an early night for me tonight and most definitely a sleep In tomorrow before work again on Tuesday.

Day 102 - 15.6.17 🥗🥗. What a busy busy day I have had today. I was up with the birds this morning and didn’t stop until around midnight. As promised, I took the little 🐶🐶🐶 out for a big walk. I had to hobble a bit as I really strained my knee doing intervals yesterday. I think it’s about time I toddled off to the drs about it. For dins my daughter made this delicious salad. Salad vegetables with pumpkin, feta and vanilla almonds. Omg it was so good. Best get to bed, got an early start tomoz.

Just enjoying those post-holiday, sleeping-my-own-bed, cooking-in-my-own-kitchen feels ☺️ Dinner was a variation on Pasta Piselli from @thugkitchen (Brocolli instead of spinach because that’s what we had in the freezer). Happy Sunday friends 👋🏻

I’m currently having a love affair with rice cakes. I know some people can’t stand the (lack of) taste or they’re not perceived as “healthy enough,” but I love them.

Since coming home, I’ve been gobbling them down—both sweet and savory varieties.

This morning, I loaded my little cake with 1/2 avocado 🥑 , egg 🍳, tomatoes 🍅 and a sprinkle of hemp seeds. Served alongside a beet-banana 🍌 smoothie. (Ha! I had cake for breakfast. 😛)
