Happy Sunday everyone! I have to admit school is becoming more of a priority then these nutrition posts. I am taking a break from studying to write a small post about chia seeds. The next few weeks of nutrition posts will be short as well considering that I am in school, working and soon to be volunteering!
Chia seeds are a super food. They are rich if omega 3 fatty acids & fiber. One reason why I enjoy adding chia seeds to my smoothies is that I remember watching a video where a guy (forgot his name, I'll try to find it and leave the link down below) stated that if you have one teaspoon of chia seeds every day, it significantly helps fight off cancer causing free radicals. Of course you can never truly believe everything you hear online or on tv, or everything you read about but knowing that I had some of these little seeds in my kitchen I figured it would do more good then harm to put a sprinkle in a smoothie. They also make smoothies slightly thicker because of there gelatinous outer layer they develop after sitting in liquid for a few minutes!
Anyways, if you have some spare change and want to incorporate these into your diet go give it a try. But if you are still struggling to eat healthy whole foods, super foods arn't going to be worth the extra expense. Remember to eat healthy first, then you can add super foods that aren't essential to your day to day life but are an added bonus to your already great diet!! Remember stay awesome and happy Sunday!
