For someone who is genuinely scared of heights, Steph Tesoriero is stepping out of her comfort zone to complete her most daring task-zip lining off a 47-storey building to raise funds for Wesley Mission.
While for many, jumping off a building at a 45 degree angle while travelling as fast as @usainbolt, would be a significant challenge, overcoming heights is a small feat for Steph. Since her late teenage years, Steph has suffered from an eating disorder. And, for many years she kept it a secret.
After seeking initial help from her GP, at 24, Steph was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and admitted as an inpatient at Wesley Hospital Ashfield. It was here Steph’s journey of recovery began. Across the course of a few years, Steph stayed at Wesley Hospital Ashfield over four separate occasions as part of her recovery.
Since being discharged from Wesley Hospital Ashfield earlier this year, Steph has continued her recovery journey with the help of Wesley Mission. Every week Stephanie attends a Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) program, run by Wesley Hospital Ashfield, which focuses on helping Stephanie manage her emotions.
Giving back to others is now a major life focus for Steph. Currently studying a social work degree at Western Sydney University, Steph is eager to work for an organisation like Wesley Mission that offers support to young people leaving foster care through the Wesley Take Charge of Your Life program. Steph also has a passion to help eradicate misconceptions about eating disorders.
