It has been mixed success the last two days, with Petunia's foster brood starting to hatch. Unfortunately she crushed the first duckling shortly after it made it out of the shell. A risk with first time mothers.
But I am happy to report that two more ducklings have hatched successfully today, and she has been wonderful with them. Very careful and very protective against the rest of the flock.
Our hens are a savage bunch, regularly killing and eating rodents, so we will be moving them out of harms way, as a precaution, once she is finished with the rest if the eggs.
