I can't help but tear up at the thought of never seeing my child again. The joy and love I feel for her are beyond words. The day I saw her for the first time in almost a year and the way my heart was bursting with excitement and joy over seeing her...its unexplainable.
Yet, so many men and women don't have this luxury. Some never made it home. Some moms and dads lost their children and never got to see them again. Moms and Dads were left with memories of a child that grew up to be a hero. Children were left without a mom, or dad- one to teach them to drive, or throw a ball- to escort them for homecoming, or to walk their baby down the aisle on that big day. A child left with stories of a parent they barely knew.
Going back and looking through these pictures, and the emotions and meaning they hold for me remind me of what so many of my brothers and sisters gave up so that we could LIVE.
I don't forget these sacrifices. Ever. But I am reminded of what they truly mean on this weekend. I hope many of you do too.
