In view what's happening in Northern California, it just seem fittingly to open a bottle of one of their finest.
The Dunn Howell Mountain wines are definitely in my top 3 list of Cabs. The 1993 vintage is no different. After torching the wax capsule for a little bit, I was able to get out the cork in one piece.
After an hour in the decanter, it opened up beautifully.
The nose had blackberries, black currant, cheers, lead pencil, tobacco and some earthy notes.
This is a full bodied wine with almost fully integrated tannins.
There is a good amount of acidity with enough fruit to complement. Again I was blown away by the elegance and complexity of this Cab. The Dunn Howell Mountain 1993 has still a lot of life in it and can go at least another decade.
