In college, I work right next to a Starbucks, and I can't count the number of times I saw someone grab one of these Protein Boxes and a Smoothie for a "high protein" healthy breakfast between classes...

And while protein is definitely important, especially while dieting, you need to make sure the "high protein" foods you're buying aren't ALSO packed with loads of extra calories...

Which is why I think it's better to pay attention to the calorie-to-protein ratio of different foods. In the scenario above, I'd opt for the low-fat turkey bacon & egg white sandwiches.

I also included the green smoothie to further illustrate why I despise liquid calories. Sure, the smoothie may have healthy ingredients, but at the cost of 260 total calories!

This is a pretty tough battle. I know from the previous cookie comparison that I posted that I got a lot of comments from people who wanted the Protein Cookie rather than the regular. This one just got a little tougher!β €

Yes, the Lenny & Larry's Protein Cookie is larger, but can it compete against SEVEN smaller cookies? Despite the protein cookie having 16g protein, I still think it would be the wise decision to take the seven smaller ones simply for volume's sake. You will most likely feel more satisfied with seven Chips Ahoy cookies than one regular Protein Cookie. But then again, the choice is yours!β €

If you were to ask what I would do personally, I would eat the Chips Ahoy! Cookies, then combine them with a protein shake or eat 100g of Chicken Breast just to boost up the Protein count by at least 20g. That way I'm getting a lot of carbs, protein and a reasonable amount of fat into my diet. Remember! It's calories in vs. calories out for weight gain and weight loss, so don't be scared of sugars!β €
