In an industry where the number one saying is "calories in vs. calories out", people are often led in the wrong direction when it comes to developing a healthy mindset! People look at calories in more of a negative view:

1๏ธโƒฃ They Will Get You Fat If You Don't Watch Out - Eat them with caution!
2๏ธโƒฃ A Calorie Is A Calorie No Matter Where It's From - So really, it doesn't matter what you eat in the end!
3๏ธโƒฃ You Need To Count Every Single One - Because how else will you know if you're overeating?

This is a common perception of calories is negative and it leads to a wrong mindset when it comes to eating whole healthy food! Rather, calories should be looked at as:

1๏ธโƒฃ Simply A Unit Of Energy - They are nothing more and they are nothing less! They provide your body with energy. If you have too much, your body will reserve some for later and if you don't get enough it will use stored energy!
2๏ธโƒฃ Where They Come From Does Matter - Maybe they are all a unit of energy, but your body will treat 250 calories from a chocolate bar and 250 calories from fruit quite differently as the latter also has a ton of fiber, water, and nutrients which all keep you fuller for longer!
3๏ธโƒฃ You Should Be Calorie Aware - As opposed to counting every single one, just be more aware that things like veggies and fruits are more high-volume foods than things like oils! You can have higher volumes of fruits and veggies because they are lower in calories!

Don't fear them and don't over complicate calories! They are nothing more than a unit of energy you need to survive! If you feed yourself whole, unprocessed natural foods and don't stuff yourself, you're set to achieve all your goals!

#ThrowbackThursday to my bikini competition in 2012. ๐Ÿ‘™Never had I ever thought of altering my body until I saw the stark difference between the girls who won and the girls who lost. Every girl that I met that day was uniquely beautiful, but what I noticed was that the girls who placed Top 5 in my contest all had breast implants. I on the other hand, placed near the bottom 5. โ€ข
Whether or not this was the case, it led me to believe that if I wanted to be a winner, I'd need to get breast implants too. But I see now that I set myself up for this mental state of weakness. When you put yourself up against other women in a physical bodybuilding competition, your entire worth is how you LOOK. Not who you are. Not your GPA. Not your talent. Not how nice you are. It's literally how low your body fat % is and whether or not the ratio of your waist to your boobs and your butt is better or worse than the girl next to you. And guess what? Your entire worth is dependent on a panel of judges who spend a few seconds looking at you like a piece of meat.

In my moments of weakness, I did not see the situation clearly. I saw myself as less-than and I wanted to do whatever it took to win. I wanted boobs. Boobs were gonna make me win, I thought. The problem was...the reason for changing my body wasn't for myself. I wanted to change my body for a panel of judges I didn't even know.
โ€ข
And that's where I stand on plastic surgery. 100% do it if it's for you. I'm never gonna judge you for it! But if you're doing it because someone else wants you to? Stay far FAR away from plastic surgery! Changing your body to make someone else happy is a NO-NO.

I havenโ€™t done a photo update of myself yet just photos of my food so thought I would add a progression photo on as this weekend I have felt a difference in myself which has really made me so proud of myself of how far I have come and how strong and determined I am.
I used to always moan about how Un happy I am with my body and feel so insecure and Not confident in my self and didnโ€™t love myself anymore .. I hated having a photo taken and always made sure that I would use air brush to make me so much slimmer and hide all my lumps and bumps.. I used to cover myself up with scarfs and baggy cardigans and bigger blouses and clothes to hide everything and to make me feel smaller than I am in the baggy clothes.. I decided two months ago to stop moaning about myself and to actually do something about it.. I have never stuck to a diet like I have now and achieve as much of a weight loss I have done .. I am nearly half way to the weight I want to be and so determined to get there.. I know now when to stop eating and not eat for the sake of it and to eat so much healthier and to watch what I am eating .. I have lost just over two stone in two months and starting to wear clothes that are the right size for me and now in smaller clothes sizes and starting to feel more confident and be happier In myself I still have a long way to go but I am getting closer to my goal โค๏ธ

-false, I eat every night immediately before bed. I get a full serving of protein, usually from a shake to create and anabolic state while I sleep. Often times I take in 40-60g of carbs with the protein as well

โ€œYou have to do an hour of cardio a dayโ€
-false, while cardio will burn calories, an hour of steady cardio has no impact on your resting metabolic rate. Weight lifting, HIIT or other resistance training does, burning calories hours after, WHILE YOU REST

โ€œYou have to avoid carbsโ€
-false, you have to avoid OVEREATING carbs & fats. I lost 20lbs while mixing high and low carb days, I lost 10 more while INCREASING carbs and fats in a controlled manner, raising my metabolism along the way

โ€œHave to eat very low caloriesโ€
-false, yes youโ€™ll lose weight, maybe significantly at first, but youโ€™ll also destroy your metabolism which will eventually lead to a plateau that will cause weight gain by over eating JUST SLIGHTLY, even if done so with healthy foods. Which will also lead to a larger โ€œgain backโ€ than the initial loss and will be much harder to lose the 2nd (or 3rd, 4th or even 5th time!). It is also likely a decent amount of โ€œweightโ€ is from muscle, which will only make it harder to lose that fat the second time around

One of my favorite things about summer is fruit salad! My mom and I have been making it every summer for years โ˜บ๏ธ I donโ€™t have exact amounts of each fruit because it varies each time depending on what we are feeling but here is whatโ€™s in this one: mandarin oranges, blueberries, strawberries, green and red grapes, kiwi, pineapple, cantalope, about 4 table spoons of honey & lime juice! I normally like watermelon in my fruit salad as well, but decided to add it in to each portion than the big bowl itself so it doesnโ€™t break down or make the fruit salad to watery! I love this for summer and bring it to work every morning for breakfast! โ˜บ๏ธ
