Been throwing off the mound a lot lately to get my body used to that gradual decline a mound has.————————————————- Using plyocare balls to keep my strength up and help with timing of things.
This video is from a long time ago when I was prepping for my baseline velocity bullpen. Since then I think I've cleaned up alot of mechanics and I am looking forward to getting off the slope soon and sharing my improvements. . . . . Day 27: Taking the day off and scheduled a PT appointment tomorrow for my shoulder. I'm not overly concerned about this minor injury - if I had to I could throw at 100% but I might feel some discomfort. The important thing is to make sure I can get this figured out and be ready to go with blending to the mound. Only like 5-6 weeks until the season starts so not alot of time to be wasted. . . . . #rehab#pitching#intent#baseballtraining#offseason#Driveline#Drivelinebaseball#richardsbaseball#velo#IDGAF#intent#plyocare#weightedballs#velocitytraining
Beyond excited to announce that our SOFTBALL plyocare balls are in!
Our softball players didn’t like throwing with our baseball sized plyocare balls. So we listened and found a solution! Tried, tested (we went through samples for over a year to get it right) and loved by our athletes. We’ve got a free basic arm care program for anyone who buys a set. This includes pitchers and position players. Online programming will be coming soon!
Here are some 70% compression throws. After working out in longtoss to maybe 65% max distance / RPE without discomfort I tried these compression throws to test how my arm was feeling after taking 3 days off... needless to say it wasn't what I had hoped. . . . . Day 26: . . Day 26 is a rough one. After doing an entire deload throwing week which ended with 3 days off I threw a modified recovery day. Reverse throws, pivot picks, roll ins all at 65% RPE. Long toss to 65%. I felt good at the time and only experienced one throw with discomfort while working out in long toss. I did 3 compression throws at 70% to test.. 2/3 I experienced discomfort. It Feels like a pinching discomfort as I follow through. . . . . I think the root of this problem comes down to how I picked my programming from Driveline and some neglect. Instead of doing a 7 day program with one day completely off from lifting and throwing i have been doing some sort of activity each day (excluding deload weeks which are structured a bit different). Although this might not be the only reason for this discomfort it is probably a factor and one where I just foolishly avoided. . . . . The reason I built the program in this manner is because of my schedule with the team I coach - to maintain a full 7 day throwing and 4 day lifting program I could not take a complete day off. Simply put it was probably an aggressive decision. Wanting results so badly I overlooked the fact that it is wise to take a complete day off to rest and allow my body to recover. . . . .
This was a set of reverse lunges with my bodyweight (160lbs). Still getting used to this exercise with a barbell - haven't found many posts on Instagram to compare my form to. So any tips / feedback would be appreciated. . . . . Day 25: 3rd day in a row of no throwing. I will have a modified recovery/hybrid day tomorrow to test out how my arm is feeling and if I feel comfortable pullingdown on Tuesday. Today's lower body workout went pretty well. Still need to work on my deadlifts and like the idiot I am I did all of my working sets with my shoes on.. rip. Played around with two different bars at the gym and the high/low handle option. . . As apart of my warmup I used a couple of stretching band drills to work on opening up my hips. The other day I realized that I have much more external rotation with my right hip compared to my left. This affects my ability to keep my left hip closed as I go through the striding phase on the mound. . . . . . #pitching#intent#baseballtraining#offseason#Driveline#Drivelinebaseball#richardsbaseball#velo#IDGAF#intent#plyocare#weightedballs#velocitytraining#lifting#reverselunge#lunges
After using the step-back variation for a couple of weeks I decided to go back to the original Roll-In and see how it compares to my regular Roll-In from the past. . . . Looks like I'm loading into my back leg better and creating hip-to-shoulder seperation. Could land more firm on front-side. . . .
Excessive contralateral tilt at release is a problem you will find in pitchers of all ages. When you see a kid that is "falling off" the mound chances are he may be exhibiting this posture. With this tilt the athlete may be limiting himself velocitywise and control is most likely an issue. . . First two pictures shows the athlete at SFC with excessive contralateral tilt and the last picture shows an athlete that is more neutral. . . To help create a more aligned posture at release using the cue of "replacing your shoulders" can help the athlete stay more upright. The rocker drill is really the best place to facilitate this. . . . . Day 24: Taking the whole day off from lifting and throwing. Going through some soft tissue work and stretches to see if I can alleviate some of the shoulder tightness I experienced yesterday. This coming week I transition into my last two velocity building weeks before starting a blend to season program. . . . . #pitching#intent#baseballtraining#offseason#Driveline#Drivelinebaseball#richardsbaseball#velo#IDGAF#intent#plyocare#weightedballs#velocitytraining#offseason#pitching
Both homers.... "mechanics" effected by timing, vision, location and the fact he was trying to hit homers.... one looks ugly, one looks less ugly... two swings, two runs produced. #BeDifferent
