1282 - For the @heartwrds "Shed a tear" challenge to write about the moments that make you cry.
Coming home from the Vietnam war was a dark time for many vets who had served their country honorably and with pride, fought in a very ugly battle, and returned home to the hatred, disdain, or shame/ embarrassment of their fellow Americans. I wrote this piece after seeing a trailer at the cinema about a Vietnam vet whose service was never acknowledged by anyone outside of his immediate family. He had not felt truly welcomed home until he was recently presented with a U.S. flag flown at Disney World and publicly thanked for his service.
