A picture is surely worth a thousand words. Swipe left to see another pic of two of my kids tied together in a three legged race. 👯♂️ 👯♂️These pics are symbolic of their relationships. In our home we partner older kids with younger kids so that our daily lives move along smoothly…or maybe I should say…less chaotically…Smooth is still a stretch! 😜 The older partner is responsible for helping the younger child with miscellaneous tasks such as dressing, brushing teeth, getting snacks etc. My older girls have taken their jobs a step further (Hallelujah!!) because they love their younger siblings. 🙌🏽 My four year old will tell you that Annalise (18) is her best friend! And my six year old will tell you that Alexis (20) is her best friend. 😍 During this three legged race the older girls tried to get the young ones to “step outside, step inside, step outside, step inside” but it was a race and there was a lot of falling, so for long stretches they picked up the littles and carried them while they hopped on one foot back to the finish line still tied together. I thought, how symbolic of daily life with all these kids. Most days training goes like this…”Not this…but that…Not this…but that…” and when they just can’t get it we do it with with them over and over and over until the life skill is in place. I think this is called transformational training. The best gift we can give our kids (besides Jesus) is the gift of caring for other people in this fast paced, self-centered culture. 🎁 Moral of this story..consider tying your kids together and making them work it out. 😜 ..I’m still figuring all this parenting stuff out too, but I do know that training kids to press into family relationships grows them up which is a good thing.
