Dads can be so helpful at weddings! They’re good at lifting heavy furniture (like 30 crates of vintage plates) 🍽 hanging things in high places (like gold terrariums in the chapel windows) 💒 building a staircase so I could reach the stage (train and all) 👰 making jokes during the toasts 🍻 and lighting the sparklers to send us off 🎆 Oh but it doesn’t stop there. I could go on and on about how our dads played special roles throughout our wedding planning journey (but maybe for another post). 💖
I now have three dads (dad, stepdad, dad-in-law) and although it’s not traditional it’s truly been a blessing. I’m thankful for all three of these men in my life and would honestly be a different person without them. Today I want to give a special tribute to my stepdad in honor of his recent birthday. 🎂
He’s always encouraged me to be more confident. He would tell me that there is nothing that I’m lacking (I knew he was a bit biased but sometimes I just needed to hear it to believe it.) #youareenough
When I would get teased for being a little weird he helped me embrace my quirks and use them to love on others. We don’t always see eye to eye but I always know that this kind & wise man is in my corner. 💘
For those that know him (and know how belated this post is 🙈) you know how giving, how hard-working, and how strong-willed he is. But you may not know that last year he gave us all a scare when he had a heart attack. He was home, alone, with no cell phone (because he believes in a simpler time) and we were all a few hours away 🚗 I remember the second that I saw him in the hospital was the first time that I realized he’s not as indestructible as I’ve always seen him. This birthday is a reminder that God is in control and not a day goes by without thanking God for his extended life and his fight 💪💙 Every day is a gift.
I know there are girls out there who won't be able to have their dads physically prersent at their wedding day & that breaks my 💔 but I want to recognize that whether you have three different dads or one in heaven, the love & support of a father should always be cherished. 📸@bsouzaphotography
