This is why we do the work that we do. We received this message today. We receive so many that keep us motivated and focused on the objective to bring effective mental health training to first responders everywhere. Thank you sir for your service and for making the choice to get help and take care of yourself. #youmatter
The message reads: I wanted to thank you for what you do. I was a PO that was retired on a line of duty injury in 2005. I've known since at least 2010 that something was wrong with me, I just couldn't put a finger on it. Isolation, social withdrawal, loss of interests and emotions. Then the flashbacks and the slide show of various calls started. Nightmares were always there, I just blew them off though. If it wasn't for the Code 9 project, I never would've know about cumulative PTSD. I finally sought treatment and was diagnosed with same.
I don't know what the relevance is, but I was recently listing to the "Sounds of Silence" covered by a band called Disturbed. While it was never Paul Simon's intention, if you listen or read the lyrics, it is totally about PTSD and being a PO(at least my interpretation). Anyway thank you for what you do, for making ppl aware, and at the very least for educating me so I can get help.
