Body Shaming and Being Real!
In todays world, body shaming is a serious issue.
Body Shaming :
Noun ~ the action or practice of humiliating someone by making mocking or critical comments about their body shape or size.
Adjective ~ Expressing mockery or criticism about a persons body shape or size.
Body shaming creeps in to our every day vocabulary, sometimes without us even realizing it.
For example, “you look like you have lost weight”, or “have you put on a little weight?”. When we go dress shopping, and the sales clerk offers you to try on a particular dress that ‘hides your curves’ or ‘flattens your tummy’. Then there are times when we even body shame ourselves. When you admire another woman, and compare yourself to her, or secretly wish that you had a certain body part that she has.
We don’t know anyones back story, and they don’t know ours. That overweight woman? She just lost 100 pounds, and is working to lose more. That woman with the skinny legs? She just had 7 knee surgeries, and is working to strengthen her legs. That woman with the nice body part you want? Go get it, if you really want it.
Embrace and accept yourself, and other women everyday. Make up, or no make up. Weave or no weave. Fat or thin. LOVE THE SKIN YOU ARE IN!! #growngirl2growngirls
