How to perfect jumps on the course, part 2!
Today I am going to tell you how to jump an oxer.
First of all make sure your gallop is active and your horse has enough energy to do the jump. If you are not galloping active enough and/or the gallops are too small, it's very hard for your horse clear the jump, because for an oxer your horse needs to jump high AND wide!
Try to come to an oxer with the same galop strides and preferably come a little closer to the jump (as to how you would come to the verticle), so that your horse can jump wide enough to get over the second pole. Very common problem on the course is that the horse takes off quite far away from the jump (mostly because rider is afraid that the horse will kick the front rail), which leads to that the horse hits the second pole with its behind legs.
Oxer can be quite a tricky jump, but in order to clear it, just remember: come to a jump with the same galop strides, make sure the galop is active enough and the jump off point must be a little closer, as it would be for a vertical, in order to jump wide enough!
I hope this tips are helpful!
