Probably gonna be sharing a lot less of my works in progress in an attempt to cradle and nurture my pieces away from the audience gaze. The way social media has set up artists to gain traction is toxic to the process. Sharing unfinished works can create the illusion of mastering a craft. It seems to me a lot of artists, myself included, can get too much praise from untrained and uncritical eyes and as a result, grow complacent in just producing works that are well liked. This is especially true for me since I'm self taught. I realize posting less may sabotage me since the algorithms will eventually render me invisible, but my best work will come bc I'm creating it for me and bc I believe it is good work. I can't do that and maintain a healthy social media presence.
With that said, I hope we see more of each other but I gotta protect my babies ♡ #art #blackart #blackartists #blackwomenartists #portrait #watercolorcrayons #monochrome #largeworks #artcritic #selftaught #digin
