“WATCHER IN THE WOODS” - today’s cigar box shadowbox was initially inspired by a witchy looking boot-shaped pin cushion I found at an antique store the other week. But as the piece started forming I realized it reminded me of “Watcher in the Woods” a favorite movie of mine. So I went for a sort-of witchy, haunted backwoods feel. The photo of the Victorian girl at the back is as I found her scratched out eye already perfectly creepy. The knots of wood (one of which is shaped like an eye) were found on hikes and saved for just this purpose. The ornate gilded designs I used for backgrounds came from Victorian photo albums. The base for the items on the door is a very old ladies belt purse, the original built in compact mirror is still visible under the lace through the “EYE” of wood. The “parasitic twin” Frozen Charlotte doll was created for me by a steampunk artist friend with metal and ceramic drilling skills.
