This again. A new, damning tweet either for or against a Kirk Cousins long term deal spreads across the internet. Redskins fans eat this up. Last time around, it was the always-reliable Adam Schefter with a claim that talks had "taken on an improved tone", and a deal looked likely. While not everyone was elated, it obviously injected some temporary hope into an ever-shifting negotiation. Emphasis on TEMPORARY.
Today, SportsCenter anchor Dianna Russini weighed in on the discussion. Her tweet seems to put any hope of a Cousins deal down to rest. What a surprise! "I have spoken to many in regards to Redskins and Cousins...told there isn't a real price that will make Kirk Cousins happy...this is deeper," she says. While this may be true, fans will once against use the latest take on the subject as fact, and that's the wrong route.
If you've been paying attention to this saga, you know that the tone can change tomorrow with a new tweet that claims Cousins does, in fact, want to play in Washington long term. A great example came not even two months ago. "I love this organization and want to see us get back to those glory days that they had with Coach Gibbs in the ‘80s and early ‘90s," Cousins said. "And I want to add to that great history. There’s really no reason to want to look elsewhere."
Does that sound like a man who wants out? No. And his feelings changed based on the promotion of well-liked personnel man Doug Williams, the only front office change within these last two months? Very doubtful. The point is, I don't believe the media's fickle viewpoint on this. You shouldn't either. There's no way to truly know the answer until Washington shows him the money...wait until then to burn your jerseys, if you must.
