Getting out of bed this morning was tough, I’m not going to lie- but I’ve got an insanely busy day ahead of me, so I knew if I didn’t lift before heading to the hospital I wouldn’t get the chance to today. And this is why I need to date a #powerlifter. Hahaha, I mean let’s face it, I can lose fat but I’ll never be small enough for the average man to pick.

Still here, still kicking. Decided to make a new goal for the rest of the year. I’m going to get at least 19 workouts in at OTF where I must get at least 4 splat points (I know the goal is 12 but I have a low heart rate so trust it’s a struggle to even get 4!) by the end of the year id love to be back down to 180s.

"Sugar is bad."

This is probably something that's been drilled into your head since you were a little kid, but where does that notion even come from?

Let's think about it for a minute.

We all know that carbohydrates (from the simplest of the simple to the very most complex) are 4 calories per gram, and "sugar" is really just another way of saying "carbohydrate."

Now a gram worth of carbohydrate from table sugar is obviously going to take up less space in your stomach than a gram of carbohydrate from something like a sweet potato, so what does that mean?

It means that the more simple the carbohydrate, the less filling it's likely to be, and on that same note it's much less likely that it's going to be from a source that also carries a significant amount of fiber or other micronutrients (vitamins/minerals/phytochemicals/etc.)

That being said, does this mean that simpler sugars are inherently "bad" for you?

Not at all.

Your body processes them and breaks them down into glucose (where basically are carbohydrates end up) and secretes enough insulin to handle the amount that you took in. A lot of people think that simple carbs mean MORE insulin is secreted, but this simply isn't true. --
The insulin response is more rapid for simpler carbs, but the total amount released is the same whether you're getting a gram of carbs from gummy bears or a gram from quinoa.

Carbohydrates serve as the primary fuel source for your daily activity, and if you've got a high target you're going to find it incredibly difficult to eat ALL of them from whole food sources without feeling like a bloated mess.

It's okay to include simple carbs in the mix!

NSV - I pulled 170 for 4 reps. I’ve only been able to do one rep before. And last time, I went for 170 at LA Fitness, I hurt my back and was out for three months. Switched to sumo, much better for my lower back.
