With today being exactly 2 years until “Scooby” hits theaters, I thought I’d share my thoughts on who should be cast as the Mystery gang. I know I posted something similar to this last year, but things have changed a bit. First up;
Ryan Reynolds as Fred Jones - the reason I chose Ryan Reynolds as Fred is because he’s actually expressed interest in playing Fred, and since Reynolds is a popular actor but mostly acts in films aimed at adults, I think Scooby would be a good way for him to transition into animation - I can’t argue with it, I think he’d be a good Fred, So... yeah. Reynolds would replace Frank Welker, who is the only original Scooby-Doo actor to still voice his character to this day. Not that I wouldn’t want Frank Welker to play Fred, but if Warner Bros. were looking to cast some “better known” actors in Scooby, than I’d go with Ryan Reynolds.
Taylor Swift as Daphne Blake - I don’t know why, but when I think of who could voice Daphne, Taylor Swift comes to mind. Maybe that’s just the best I can think of right now, but I really think she’d be a great Daphne. It wouldn’t the first time Swift has been in an animated film either. She previously voiced Audrey in The Lorax from Illumination Entertainment. Taylor Swift would replace voice actress Grey DeLisle, who has voiced Daphne in all the Scooby-Doo tv series/specials and direct-to-video films since 2001. Kate Micucci as Velma Dinkley - Micucci has been voicing Velma since 2015, and I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing her reprise her role for Scooby. Kate Micucci has already lent her voice to a character in another film from Warner Animation Group, Clayface in The Lego Batman Movie to be specific. Matthew Lillard as Shaggy Rogers - aside from Shaggy’s original voice actor Casey Kasem, Matthew Lillard is the only other actor to have played Shaggy in more than just one tv series or film (both live-action and animation), and he’s seriously a great actor so I just can’t imagine anyone else voicing Shaggy.
