12/30/17 Brewery #600 and our final Colorado brewery*: @mountaincowboybrewingcompany. About freaking time, as they say. After 11 years, we should have hit this milestone long before today, but work, life, finances, dogs, fishing, blah blah blah. Now we are here... and a double-honor as we hit number 600 at our last Colorado brewery*. Mountain Cowboy is a brewery and coffee shop (a kitchen is forthcoming) in one of the coolest, Colorado-ist taprooms we've seen. From the slab wood barn doors to the fireplace to chandelier, everything is thoughtfully appointed, but not over-designed. The same can be said of their beers. Brewer Liam (formerly of Elk Mountain) starts out strong with a line-up of seven beers, the majority of which lean hoppy-bitter, but otherwise diverse in flavor from a hoppy brown to a tropical-fruited IPA to a German pale ale. The amber, brewed with hops from the brewery's own hop farm, was particularly well-balanced and interesting. The tropical IPA, with its strong passionfruit nose, enticed me as I can't enough of that particular brand of fruity dankness. Once they have the kitchen rocking, the goal is to m as ke food with the beer, beer with the coffee, and pair the food with both.
Frederick is only 25 minutes from Denver, and between Mountain Cowboy and Echo Brewing, you have two damn fine breweries, so what are you waiting for? Go.
