Walking with wolves: When I first approached these two, the small female cautiously accessed me. Knowing the dogs here in Peru are quick to acknowledge you, allow you to pass, and then quickly run up behind you and nip the back of your legs, I did what most dog lovers would do. I gathered my highest pitch voice and started squeel dog talk as if it was the cutest puppy. 😂🤷🤦 As I am making a fool of myself alone in the middle of the neighborhood streets, I noticed her stance soften. Then came the licking and soft, loving and playful knawing on my arm. "Cool" I'm good I'll just keep walking. Then, this small female raised her muzzle and yipped continuously for a few moments and followed that up with a strong howl!! WTF is going on, I thought. Then the larger male runs out to sniff me. Absolutely no playing, licking, or sign of joy to see me from this guy. He was a protector, and he definitely seemed like he had a job to do.
These beauties followed me 3km down the road to the market in Pisac, Peru. They did not just follow me, they walked with as if I was a pack member. The larger one out in front stayed that distance the entire trek. He would run the road back and forth, nose to ground accessing and car, person, bicycle or motorcycle ahead of us, as if he was heading the pack. The smaller female stayed close behind me the whole time with ears pinned down and taking on a very loving and submissive role. As anything would approach from my rear, she would create some distance between us, and slowly drop back. In turn, the lead dog, would close our distance slightly, getting closer to me.
I walked through the market with them by my side the entire time and they led me back home the 3k through the dark roads of Pisac.
What an unbelievable experience to feel like I belonged, was accepted, and each knew our role in the pack. When you walk your path and become your true self, you become transparent to all things with a brain. Acceptance happens by understanding through essence. Not words, race, culture, ethnicity, or obviously not even species! 😵🙆🙏♥️ #PAY_your_ATTENTION
