"The Black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness." On this day in 1920, Marcus Garvey presented his “Back to Africa” program in New York City. Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Jr., was a Jamaican political leader, publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator, who had been a loyal advocate of the Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements. Garvey’s approach to nationalism was unique due to his connection of the African American condition to people of African descent worldwide. He argued that regardless of where one lived, all those with dark skin were connected by ancestral connections to Africa and their experiences with racism and discrimination. #BlackHistory365 #NeverForget #WakeUp #StayWoke #WakeSomebodyUp #BlackPower

#wakesomebodyup new single premiers at a club tonight 🔥🔥🔥. Let me see how the world would react...

We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, yet many are denied equal treatment. On this day, 53 years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race in public accommodations, publicly owned or operated facilities, employment and union membership, and most importantly, in voter registration; paving the way for the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Although enforcement was weak, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a vital act and allowed for the cutoff of federal funds in places where discrimination remained, along with fines and jail time. #EstablishingRulesOfJustice #NeverForget #BlackHistory365 #WakeUp #StayWoke #WakeSomebodyUp #BlackPower
