Vanishing Point - Innis and Gunn
This Imperial Stout smells and tastes like a strong, well-made mocha with an extra shot of espresso. A smooth mouthfeel, but light in body with flavours of fresh coffee grounds, chocolate, vanilla and oak. The oak and vanilla balance out any bitterness from the roasted barley.
Imperial Stouts in particular require some powerful malts to create that dark colour and stout flavour. Incredibly dark on the standard reference method scale, as this brew doesn’t let in any light.
The head is light, but leaves a nice lacing. Low carbonation. Aged in a cask for 200 days. A good way to warm you up after a long, cold night.
The Vanishing Point series is a collection of small batch, limited editions from Innis and Gunn. The brewers in the company come together to create the most creative brews they can, all while sourcing the best ingredients. The first in the series, VP01, is an imperial stout aged for 6 months in first-fill bourbon casks.
