People aged between 26 and 45 make up the biggest group of homeless in Athens according to Emfasis; they are people in their most productive age, living on the streets. Furthermore, many of the people who Emfasis helps are educated and had careers before the crisis hit. They use sophisticated language, and they want to talk about anything but their situation. @emfasisgr Foundation is a non-profit organisation, relying entirely on private and individual funding. it was founded to address the holistic needs of all vulnerable and socially excluded groups living mainly in a street situation or impending homelessness as well as those who face serious survival problems. Emfasis applies a personal approach when assessing the essential individual requirements of the person in need – seeking first to restitute his/her dignity, and provide adequate social, emotional and human support. Emfasis places enormous value on the importance of volunteer work and the engagement and sacrifice towards the community; history proves that people who had the least, gave the most. Volunteering is not a question of money, competence or expertise, it is a question of belief, generosity of heart and desire to give back to the people.
Let's consider how lucky we are, but above all let's consider how all these people used to be lucky too, and how they have suddenly lost everything: house, job, dignity of being human.
Help as much you can, since a little help can create an immense difference in someone's life.
