Nate (owner of Vivace Music Center) is selling his personal piano: $1,500.00 or best offer. It is a 1924 Sohmer Cupid model baby grand piano. I purchased this piano in 2006 from a lady in Annapolis, MD, who's grandmother purchased the piano new. Since purchasing it, I've had it tuned and serviced on a regular basis. The piano technician has replaced small parts here and there to make it play better. But keep in mind, it is nearly 100 years old. It has a couple scratches here and there and a couple ring stains from someone (NOT ME) setting a glass of water on the piano. There's no broken keys, no broken strings, all 3 pedals work, and all notes play nice and evenly. It holds a tune well and the soundboard still maintains the correct crown. The key weight is a little heavy to the touch. Moving it will require a double tuning (which can usually be done in 1 visit from the piano technician). I've seen several pianos on Craigslist or in friend's houses and hear them say things like, "Oh that why is broken so we can't play it," "Oh the upper register has a lot of broken hammers, so we just play down here," "Oh it doesn't hold a tune so we just deal with the sound," etc. This piano, considering its age and that it has not previously been restored, is in excellent condition.
It would be a great piano for a beginner or intermediate pianist, or for an advanced or professional pianist to purchase and have restored for less than the cost of a new baby grand piano of similar quality. A new walnut piano with similar hand-carved detailing would be MUCH more costly.
I'm selling it because after opening Vivace a little over 2 years ago, I spend all day (9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Monday through Saturday) at the store so this piano just sits in our living room and doesn't get much use.
If you are planning on having it restored, I would recommend Lindeblad Piano Restoration in New Jersey. (I'm not at all affiliated with them). They have been in business for several generations and do exceptional work. If you are interested in purchasing the piano to have restored, Lindeblad can pick it up from our house, restore it, deliver it to you, and tune it!
