The owner of this Mercedes Vito 2.2 diesel with 133k miles on got in contact after a EGR code appeared and asked if our service would sort the problem.
I told the customer that we can be successful if there’s a small amount of dry carbon in the EGR, but more often than not the EGR needs to be removed and checked as they have either a large build up of oily/carbon residue that the Hydrogen cannot remove or the EGR has failed mechanically.
The customer decided to remove the EGR and found the shaft from the stepper motor to the actuator arm had snapped, so a new EGR was ordered, fitted and then a carbon clean booked to reduce carbon levels and prepare the Vito for its up coming European tour.
