You see the nice price sticker on this Bruce Springsteen album? It was a nice price indeed, I got this one for free!
Also. Is there one big, major artist or group that you feel like you SHOULD like but you just...don't? Or at least not as much as you "should"? I'm afraid that was for a long time the relationship between me and Bruce. I mean, I never disliked him, I just never "got" him. It's getting better though. Early Bruce is good, even great at times. This is "Darkness On the Edge of Town", Mr. Springsteen's fourth album from 1978. It is the follow up to my favourite Bruce album "Born to Run", a bit more subdued and depressed than the aforementioned album's thunderous choruses, but I also note a new found maturity on this album. The production is crystal clear, and the themes of the album are varied but insightful, particularly on "Badlands" and "Prove It All Night". It might miss a bit of the spark and fire that was there on the previous album, but it certainly gets its message across. Bruce, forever the champion of the working class losers, turning them into tragic heroes.
