The Burton Cummings Theatre is named after the lead singer of the Guess Who, arguably the best rock group Canada has ever produced (sorry Rush fans). The building opened in 1907 as the Walker Theatre and was home to opera and Broadway plays. In 1945 it became the Odeon Theatre and the movie house operated until 1990. It was renovated and reopened as a live performance venue in 1991 and was named after the Winnipeg-born Cummings in 2002. I love the vintage-style sign that’s in the shape of Manitoba.
