Legend says that when the Danish prince visited Iceland every girl wanted to be his princess. Even the trolls who roamed the land.
And when trolls are exposed to sunlight they turn to stone.
When the prince set sail for Denmark just before dawn, a troll got grip of the royal ship. The sun rose and the troll turned to stone with the ship still in her hands, turning the ship, the crew and the prince to stone as well. If one were to find and kiss him, he or she would have a prince.
The four pillars in front of the coast are said to be the ship held by the troll.
Geologists say that when the volcano Katla, hidden underneath the Mýrdalsjökull, erupts, it will melt the glacier so quickly that it's going to create a tsunami so devastating, able to destroy everything in its path to the ocean. The inhabitants of Vík í Mýrdal then have 20 minutes tops to reach the church to survive, which is their highest safepoint. They regularly have drills for this event and even the youngest kids know what to do in such a doomsday scenario. They told me that the Icelanders fear nothing more than this volcano. And it's told to get ready to erupt. Remember when
Eyjafjallajökull erupted back in 2010, spewing a cloud of ash over the entire main continent of Europe and grounding the European air traffic for 6 weeks? Katla will make that event look like child play.
