So, this was a tricky one to write. I hadn’t really thought the writing part through when I was planning the photo shoot. Like I said, there isn’t any reliable information on Vera, not even a snippet of something she may have said to a reporter. If there are public records out there that prove her existence, no one has ever made them easily accessible.
So to create Vera’s character I had to get really creative. I’m used to going off of something, so starting from scratch was quite difficult. I did some reading on dependent personality disorders and the history of jealousy. I essentially crafted Vera’s character out of various academic and historical texts.
Then — the other tricky part — how to reference a life that didn’t exist? I’ve made Vera a spirit-like character in this story. She exists because the idea of her was brought into the world — and I don’t eliminate the possibility that she may have been real. But because her legacy is essentially no more than her crimes, this is really all she knows and all she can talk about. She’s stuck in a sort of purgatory that society has built around her.
Hope you’ll enjoy this one! 💋🖤
