Thrown back Thursday #tbt. One of the coolest fish I've ever seen caught and such a monster large mouth for Minnesota. A few years back my dad and I spent 5 days fishing across the state and our last stop was close to home, we hit up a spot we both know for crappies like the back of hand. We were fishing shallow and all the sudden this monster bass slammed my dad's tiny crappie jig, he started fighting it and lost it. He rebaited dropped back down not looking for this fish and bam this bass hits again, this time he played the fish correctly and was able to land the fish.
This past weekend Hometown Hero Outdoors hosted a cabin trip near Aitkin Minnesota. We arrived Friday afternoon and snuck a few hours of fishing then returned to the cabin for conversation and cards. Saturday morning we were treated to an amazing breakfast by our hosts Tom and Sandy then went out for a day of fishing on a semi private lake we gained access to from some of the amazing lake community. Fishing at times was slow but picked up amazingly just before the storm. We here at Hometown Hero Outdoors want to thank all of our participants who made this a memorable event. We also want to thank Tom and Sandy for hosting us and the Long lake and Dam lake community for their support. This trip was a very memorable event for those who attended and wouldn't have been possible with out your support.
Last Wednesday Hometown Hero Outdoors got out on Mille Lacs for a day of fishing. We arrived early that morning and met our guides at the Appledorns lake access after introductions and a quick briefing we split off to divide and conquer Mille Lacs. Fishing was tough but it was a good day spending time learning from our guides. Many Thanks to all the Veterans and Law enforcement members that came out and spent the day with us.
This past Thursday Hometown Hero Outdoors set out for a weekend on Lake of the Woods. It was an amazing weekend, with lots of new connections made and an opportunity for everyone to forget about any problems that they may be having. The weather was as good as it gets on Lake of the woods as we got 20 Veterans/law enforcement in 11 ice castles. Fishing was tough but they managed to catch fish, including personal bests and first fish through the ice. We here at Hometown Hero Outdoors can't wait to do it again, and want to thank all the participants for making the drive up.
Huge shoutout to Dale's Fish House Rental - Lake of the Woods for hosting us and getting a great spot plowed out for the 11 ice castles, Outdoors Again for all of the gear, and Ice Castle Owners Group (ICOG) for sending some volunteers out for the weekend!
This past weekend Hometown hero outdoors had it's first ever fishpalooza ice fishing get together. While the fishing was mediocre at best, the conversations, reunions, and new friendships made, turned the day into an unforgettable day. 2 veterans that were there, served together and had not seen each other in 25 years. It was a great day many thanks to those who came out and fished. That's a wrap for the St. Paul Ice Show. Thanks to all those who stopped by and said hi. We can't wait to get out with all the veterans and law enforcement officers we met. Special thanks to all those who helped us continue our mission without your support we wouldn't be able to do what we do.
I am so blessed to have so many amazing veterans in my life. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I couldn’t begin to find pictures of you all to put into a collage. I think I’d break the layout app-haha
Thank you to all those who served. Thank you to all those who are serving. Thank you to all those who will serve. An especially big THANK YOU to my Dad Kenton Nichols. I wouldn’t change anything about growing up as an Air Force Brat. The moving, the deployments, the adventures. It molded me into who I am today. Thank you for choosing to serve this country we call Home. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 And THANK YOU to Tony Wrye. Your friendship to my dad while you both served and after you both retired. I appreciate & love you so much.
