Today I had the pleasure to honor Jen LaVita - a Mar Vistan and an Army Air Artillery Officer veteran during the city council’s Veteran’s Day Presentation.
Jen is a Boston area native who served as an Airborne-rated Army Air Artillery Officer after graduating from ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps). During her time in the army, she served as an Air Defense Artillery officer from 2009-2013, where she helped manage modern complicated military computers on complex networks, communications equipment systems, and radars in order to provide warning, detection, and protection for armed forces from aerial attack, missile attack, and aerial surveillance.
Once leaving the military as a first lieutenant, Jen headed West and landed in Mar Vista to pursue a career in art. Jen creates out of her Grand View Fine Art Studios in Mar Vista (just south of Pacific Ave and north of Grand View Elementary School) and regularly shows work and live paints at various venues throughout Los Angeles and at our own Mar Vista Art Walk.
Jen is a member the Night Owl Players, the United States Veterans' Artists Alliance (USVAA) and Women Painters West. Her work is very colorful, vibrant and often concentrated on nature. Jen draws inspiration from the beauty around her and her love for animals and sea life. Her artistic goal is to create more beauty in the world and inspire positivity.
Thank you Jen for your service - and for your ongoing contributions to making our neighborhoods beautiful. You are deeply appreciated.
You can follow her art on Instagram @jenlavitaart for all upcoming shows and new work.
