6 years ago today I was able to compete in my first ever competition with my OWN pony. After years of pleading and showing true dedication paid off. 50cm and 5th place, I was absolutely delighted that I could start the first chapter of my dreams. In the 3 years of owning Checkers I took him through the scales of training and I found my self VERY nervous of Dressage. Depsite Checker's mental state not being very confident jumping at 90cm+, I gave him a chance to see if he could be a BE90 pony for me to gain experience. Sadly he proved to be more comfortable at lower heights so it was time to sell him on so I could progress.
Then came along Dru, who I cannot thank enough for making me the rider I am today. Although he's had a few textbook injuries setting us back, his well being and condition have massively improved. He's the most neurotic horse ever but we know each other inside out so he's perfect to me. In 2014/2015 I was schooling him what what I knew but it had ended in tears as my nerves got the better of me scoring 40-50s Dressage. After endless schooling and developing true contact, where he's not light in the mouth and not just looking pretty for a picture. His neck and jaw proved to be so supple, it was just his confirmation defects proving it such hard work. Soooo happy to say we're scoring 33-23 dressage and I've nearly cracked my nerves of forgetting the test and brain fog. I now feel that what he has taught me has enabled me to get on any horse and somewhat make a tune out of him/her.
His jumping is coming on massively developing a more bascule shape through lessons with Joe Whitaker. Although he'll always have his point-to-point head on at times... he very rarely has a 1 stride double down😼
Cannot thank my dad and coaches enough for who I am today as a rider, being able to get to ODES, SJ, DR by myself from being 17 with a trailer licence. Proving that I can get to my allocated time slot without any help, and being very fortunate that Dru is a SAINT to load whilst I travel by myself. I feel I've grown up a lot in the past 6 years😌👍🏼 #Progress#Fortunate#ExRaceHorse#Memories#VeryLucky
