What can the dance world do with the Reembody Method? Plenty. Just ask veteran dancer/choreographer @erin_boyt, founder of @versionexcursiondance: ————————————————- ・・・
This was SO. MUCH. FUN.
Watching this video, I barely recognize myself. Even a year ago, I was way too afraid of the floor for something like to come out. Now, I’ve made friends with gravity and I’m practically throwing myself at the ground.
So, what changed? Incorporating The Reembody Method into my personal dance practice has been a game changer in many ways, and this is only one. Among other things, my warmup for improv sessions lately has included simple chaîné turns with a very specific twist: I practice spotting with only my non-dominant eye, regardless of which direction I’m turning. This is one way to teach my nervous system to feel safe performing movements it’s not familiar with.
I’m still better at turning clockwise than counter-clockwise...but my fear of floorwork is gone and once I wind up, my only problem becomes figuring out how to stop!
