VENICE ART BIENNALE 2017: The weather couldn't be better, and the city is stunning at every turn you take. Here, the late #JamesLeeByars' #TheGoldenTower can be seen from boat, bridge and... pleasantly on the way to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum. The work is a perfect example of fine and considered handiwork. The tower is made up of 5 parts which were hand gilded in gold leaf by the #ManettiGilders in Milan - the same gilders who hand-applied the gold leaf on the Haunted House at Fondazione Prada. Through the organisation of @michaelwernergallery, the 5 pieces then travelled to Venice where they arrive by boat and were installed piece by piece. A simply stunning site. #veniceartbiennale2017@labiennale#BiennaleArte2017
“In This Vessel Lies The Philosopher’s Stone" Subodh Gupta's tour de force at Galleria Continua offers humble objects that are transformed into things of great value and exquisite beauty, just like the philosopher’s stone that could turn base metals such as iron, tin, lead, zinc, nickel or copper into precious metals like gold and silver. This mythical stone also acted as an elixir of life, with the power to cure illness, renew the properties of youth and even grant immortality to those who possessed it. I hope that I have elevated the humble syringe into this thing of beauty. You can see my syringe sculptures until November 26th at Palazzo Mora, Strada Nuova,Venice as part of the Personal Structures Exhibition for the European Cultural Centre during the Venice Biennale.
" Venice is a floating art city that has inspired cultures for centuries, but to continue to do so it needs the support of our generation and future ones, because it is threatened by climate change and time decay" – #lorenzoquinn via designboom Support by Lorenzo Quinn, Venice art biennale/2017
'' I wanted to sculpt what is considered the hardest and most technically challenging part of the human body. the hand holds so much power – the power to love, to hate, to create, to destroy'’ - #lorenzoquinn via desingboom Support by Lorenzo Quinn, Venice art biennale / 2017
